Paphlagonia, Sinope. Mid 5th Century BC. AR Drachm (5.67g, 18mm). Obv.: head of a sea-eagle to right, with ‘talon’, and dolphin below. Rev.: quadripartite incuse square with two opposing quarters filled, the others stippled and with pellet. RG 11 var. (differing reverse); SNG Ashmolean 227; Leu Auc. 38, lot 652 (same dies); Ex Leu Auc. 38, lot 652. A very rare variety. VF.
