Celtic Northeast Gaul. Meldes. Roveca. Circa 60-50 BC. AE 18mm (2.69g).
Obv.: ROVECA, diademed bust of Venus right.
Rev.: horse to the right, a wheel above and a pointed ring below; three pointed rings between the front legs; a beaded exergue line with a trifid ornament below. LT 7635-6; BN.7635-42; DT 585. Rare. VF.
The Meldes were a Gallic tribe from the Belgic region, likely centered around modern Meaux, France. They were part of the Celtic culture and minted distinctive coins.
Roveca Coins:
- The Bronze Roveca coins were issued by the Meldes between 60–40 BC.
- The inscription ROVECA appears on some coins, though its exact meaning is debated.
